Transcript of Narration

"Once again, Esther and Mania retreated to the forest to hide. Esther had returned to Ksiemozierz and told the family there that she hadn’t been able to get across the river. But the family was insistent, so she said she would try again. But this time when she left, she took Mania with her, knowing that they would not return. And this time, to avoid going past the barracks, they went through the thick forest, where they armed themselves with sticks to fend off the wild pigs that lived there. There, they waited until dark before they returned to Mniszek.

"Although this is a simple picture, with a simple story, I have always been touched by the way in which Esther remembered being sheltered by the forest, how the trees so beautifully and lovingly encircle the girls.'"
